Group AGM 2020

10th June 2020 @ 19:30 20:30

We’re all having to adjust to a very different way of life at the moment, and while that has meant there has been a temporary halt on face-to-face Scouting – our Scout Group is very much continuing to operate, albeit in a very different way.

Save the date!

As such, we’d like to cordially invite you to this years 1st Ince and Elton Scout Group AGM which will be held on Wednesday 10th June 2020 at 7:30pm. Due to the ongoing situation with regards to the coronavirus, this years AGM will be a “virtual” event that will be hosted online.

How to join/watch our AGM

We will be broadcasting the meeting via a Microsoft Teams live event and for the best experience we recommend downloading the Microsoft Teams app on your computer/tablet/smartphone, although it should also be viewable via most web browsers too.

Don’t worry, we won’t be able to see or hear you, unlike some of the video conference software you may have become accustomed to, but please feel free to use the Q&A to say hello to everyone and ask any questions you have that we will try and answer as we go along or at the end.

Please use this link to Join the meeting at 19:25 ready for a 19:30 start. Don’t forget your cuppa and slice of cake as you join us from the comfort of your own home! 😉

If you need assistance joining the Teams broadcast, please watch this brief video and read the instructions here.

REMINDER – Changes to Subs

Help us keep our movement going. It has never been so important for our young people.

19/04/2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

These are challenging and uncertain times for us all.

While we are not meeting face to face (to keep everyone safe) it is more important than ever to make sure that we can continue into the future.

Changes to monthly subscriptions and helping us meet our essential costs.

Unfortunately, we still have fixed costs, which we have to pay, whether we’re meeting face to face or not. Our fixed costs include our rent, utilities, licences, and costs incurred at a national level (covering vital services such as insurance and safeguarding support). All of these still need to be paid.

Now that April’s payments are out of the way, we are asking parents to cancel their monthly Standing Orders with us, because from 1st August, we will be using Online Scout Manager to collect monthly subscriptions.

OSM makes it much easier for us as a group to track incoming payments for Subs, and allows us to easily collect the required info to claim Gift Aid on our subs. We are hoping that by that time the pandemic will be over, and things will be settling back to normal. Ashley or your Section Leaders will be back in touch when where ready to move forward with this.

In the meantime, we have come up with the following solution with the hope of giving as much support as we can to our parents and carers:

  • For the next 3 months, namely May, June and July, for those of you who are able, we would really appreciate it if you could pay your monthly subs via our Fundraising website using this link – https://fundraising.1stinceandelton.org.uk/product/subs-full-1-month/. You can pay for it with Credit/Debit Card or BACS all in one go by changing the product quantity, or you can pay month by month.
  • For those who are struggling, we ask if you could make a contribution of £6 a month. This will help cover our essential costs over the next few months. It will mean that we can still be here ready to welcome your children back when the crisis passes. Just like with the above option, we ask that this be done through our Fundraising website, using this link – https://fundraising.1stinceandelton.org.uk/product/subs-contribution-1-month/. You can pay for it with Credit/Debit Card or BACS all in one go by changing the product quantity, or you can pay month by month.
  • And for those that are facing significant financial challenges at the moment, we do not wish to cause any further financial hardship and fully understand if you are unable to make any contribution.

As you will know we are a local charity, run by unpaid volunteers, as well as being part of a national membership organisation. We rely on income from parents and carers to keep operating. By supporting us financially now, we can make sure our Scout Group is still here for your child when these challenging times have passed.

Why your support matters.

The Scout movement is so important to your child and to our community. Our local Group is entirely run by unpaid volunteers. By supporting each other during this challenging time, we can make sure we can continue in your area to support your child.

Help for you at home.

We have set up a dedicated page on our website which is continually updated to help support our members continue their scouting journey through this difficult period.

The page has a collection of useful information and activities that can be done in the comfort of your own home, as well as acting as a central hub to other resources such as The Scouts Great Indoors and Badges at Home.

You can visit the page by heading to https://1stinceandelton.org.uk/coronavirus.

Thanks for sticking with us. It is your support that counts the most.

Best Wishes & Stay Safe,

Natalie Tudor

St Georges Promise Renewal

26th April 2020 @ 11:00 11:30

St Georges Day is usually an important part of the Scouting Calendar for many groups and is either celebrated as part of a special church service or other event. It’s usually used as an opportunity to perform a Renewal of our Promise, and reminds us all of our commitment to the Scout values.

The current situation makes this difficult to do in the normal sense, however we’re Scouts – and we’re a resilient bunch!

What we’d like you all to do is wear your uniforms for just a couple of minutes, and make a recording of yourself reciting the promise (don’t forget to make the Promise sign – we’ve included a hint) and send it to us before Saturday 25th April so that we can collate the videos together and make a single video of the section renewing their promise. We’ll then share this collated video on Social Media at approximately 11am on Sunday 26th April to show us reciting our promise as a troop.

If you could also share your Promise recording on your own/parents social media accounts at 11am on Sunday 26th April, that would be greatly appreciated.

You can find the Scout Promise for each of the Sections on our website:

Scouts Clap for Carers

23rd April 2020 @ 20:00 20:05

This has become a staple community (and national) weekly event during these uncertain times, and the 23rd April is extra special as it’s St Georges Day!

Therefore, we’d like as many Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to wear their uniforms and join in with #ScoutsClapforCarers to show The Scouts’ appreciation for everything our Key Workers are doing.

If you could share any photos and videos of Young People taking part in this, it would be greatly appreciated so that we can showcase via our Social Media channels.

Cheshire Scouts Present:

Image from Party Delights Blog.

#CampAtHome an initiative from Northumberland Scouts!

Calling all young people from across Cheshire, the UK, and the Wider World. COVID-19 (Coronavirus) may have changed the way we do things, but it won’t stop Scouts camping!

Northumberland Scouts are organising a month-long Virtual Camp across April, from the 01/04/20 – 30/04/20. Ending with an attempt to set the world record for the Largest Virtual Camp on 30/04/2020, when we’d like as many Cheshire Scouts as possible to participate.

Take up the challenge and let’s keep on ‘virtually camping’, here are the “Rules”;

We’re asking you all… Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Network, Leaders, Parents, and Young People interested in joining in the fun to:

  • Pack a bag
  • Build a den at home / pitch a tent in the garden/ hang up a hammock (whatever you can)
  • Sleep in your shelter of choice
  • Build a ‘campfire’ (real or virtual)
  • Take part in a ‘Scouty activity’
  • Help with cooking a meal.

MOST IMPORTANTLY… Each night you participate share a creative photo, video, blog, etc. to our social media using the hashtag: #CampAtHome

Then share them with your leaders and friends to show that although we can’t meet “Face to Face” Scouting doesn’t stop!

Each Young Person who takes part will be entitled to 1️⃣ Night Away for each night they participate (as long as they aren’t sleeping in their bed). Meaning you could get up to an extra 30 Nights Away if you take on the challenge!

Everyone who participates will also get a Virtual Certificate for joining in, we will also be awarding special Virtual Certificates for those that manage the full month. Additionally, if you take part on 30/04/20 and we get enough participants you’ll be part of setting a world record!

Chester Gang Show Trip

18th February 2020 @ 18:15 21:30

For the second year, we’re running a trip to Chester Gang Show.

For those that aren’t familiar of what a Gang Show is, here is a brief summary:

A Gang Show is a theatrical performance by  members of Scouting. Young people make up the majority of the cast, or Gang, with adult leaders and parents helping out behind the scenes. Gang Show offers a great opportunity for young people to work together as a team on a high profile project and to stage a ‘shop window’ event to demonstrate their talents to the people of Chester and surrounding area.

We have a rich history, and have performed in venues across Chester over the years, but our home since 2008 (with the exception of one year) is the new Vanbrugh Theatre, Kings School.

The production team and Gang, all volunteers, participate in many hours of planning, writing, composing, choreographing, building stage scenery/props, making costumes and rehearsing for several months before the actual performances. In order to reach the required performance standard for a Gang Show, a high level of commitment is needed from all involved in the production as well as support from their families.

The format of a Gang Show is essentially a revue or variety show; song, dance and short comedy sketches are the most common items.  The material in our programme is far from conventional, and can include all forms of song, dance and acting – we’ve tried pretty much anything from Broadway to the West End, Hollywood to Bollywood, Shakespeare to end-of-the-pier… Some of the material is well-known, other material is original to Chester Gang Show, often even devised by the young people themselves.
