SUMMARY:Elton Firework Spectacular 2024
DESCRIPTION:Our flagship fundraising event is back for it’s 13th year on Saturday 2nd November on Elton Parish Field. \n\n\n\nUnfortunately there will once again be no Bonfire this year\, but all the usual food and drink stalls will be there – as well as our fantastic Fireworks display. \n\n\n\nDue to the unprecendented numbers that attended the event in 2021\, this year our target audience is once again the three villages of Elton\, Ince and Thornton-le-moors. We strongly recommend that those from outside these areas attend a Bonfire/Fireworks event that is more local to you. \n\n\n\nOur event is walkable from most areas of the village\, and we encourage people attending to arrive by foot. However\, we do understand that some people may need to arrive by car. As such\, there is extremely limited parking available at Elton Community Centre (and elsewhere in the village). \n\n\n\nWhen leaving your car\, please be mindful of where you’re parking – ensuring that you’re not blocking any access to propoerty\, nor causing obstruction for Emergency Vehicles. \n\n\n\nFull details are available on our event website – https://www.1stinceandelton.org.uk/fireworks. DESCRIPTION:Cheshire Hike is a challenging yet rewarding\, two day expedition completed in teams of 2-5 people\, open to Scouts\, Explorers\, Guides and Rangers between the ages of 10½ and 17.\n\n\n\nWe have three age categories\, based on how old you are on Saturday 6th April 2024. Please note there are a few changes to the criteria for the 2024 event – detailed below. \n\n\n\nAge CategoryHiker AgeKit Weight LimitPathfinder(30km)At least 10½ years of age\, but not 12½ yet.Day pack: 6kg+ a transported rucksack: 10kgPathfinder Plus(40km)At least 12½ years of age\, but still in Scouts or Guides.Rucksack: 8kgExplorer(50-60km)At least 13½ years of age\, and an Explorer or Ranger.Rucksack: 10kg\n\n\n\n\n“Cheshire Hike is one of the most historic and renowned events in our calendar. \n\n\n\n“It sees Scouts\, Explorers\, Guides and Rangers hiking through the Cheshire countryside\, navigating their way. It requires preparation\, organisation\, teamwork\, resilience and personal determination to get to the end. \n\n\n\n“This is an event that truly delivers #SkillsForLife and every participant should be very proud to say they have taken part. SUMMARY:Chester Gang Show 2024
DESCRIPTION:Our sections have once again been invited to Chester Gang Show for their 2024 show. Anyone who went before will know what a really good event it is and is very enjoyable. For those who aren’t sure what it involves\, here’s a summary. \n\n\n\nA Gang Show is a theatrical performance by members of Scouting. Young people make up the majority of the cast\, or Gang\, with adult leaders and parents helping out behind the scenes. A Gang Show offers a great opportunity for young people to work together as a team on a high-profile project and to stage a ‘shop window’ event to demonstrate their talents to local people. \n\n\n\nChester Gang Show have a rich history\, and have performed in venues across Chester over the years\, but their home since 2008 (with the exception of one year) is the Vanbrugh Theatre\, Kings School. \n\n\n\nThe production team and Gang\, all volunteers\, participate in many hours of planning\, writing\, composing\, choreographing\, building stage scenery/props\, making costumes\, and rehearsing for several months before the actual performances. In order to reach the required performance standard for a Gang Show\, a high level of commitment is needed from all involved in the production as well as support from their families. \n\n\n\nThe format of a Gang Show is essentially a revue or variety show; song\, dance and short comedy sketches are the most common items. The material in the programme is far from conventional\, and can include all forms of song\, dance and acting – Chester Gang Show have tried pretty much anything from Broadway to the West End\, Hollywood to Bollywood\, Shakespeare to end-of-the-pier… Some of the material is well-known\, other material is original to Chester Gang Show\, often even devised by the young people themselves. \n\n\n\nWe have booked a minibus for transport and the cost will be approx. £10 (non refundable). If we exceed the capacity of the minibus\, then some parents may need to make alternative arrangements to get their young person to the event – we will advise of this in advance of the event. \n\n\n\nWe will pick up and drop off  at the top of the Scout Hut lane. We haven’t included a finish time but will find out before the event.

This year’s harvest service will take place at Elton Church Hall. \n\n\n\nAlong with the change of venue\, comes a change of format! DESCRIPTION:It’s been another interesting 12 months – which has seen COVID-19 restrictions mostly disappear and things returning to a “new” normal! \n\n\n\nIt has also seen some rather exciting developments (or should that be re-developments) take place around our HQ Building – as our HQ External Works project works were completed. \n\n\n\nSave the date!\n\n\n\nAs such\, we’d like to cordially invite you to this year’s 1st Ince and Elton Scout Group AGM which will be held on Thursday 16th June 2022 at 7:00pm. \n\n\n\nThe good news this year\, is that our AGM will return to a face-to-face affair and will take place at our Scout HQ. Our AGM will also be a perfect opportunity to “officially” unveil the completion of our External Works project. \n\n\n\nThe key documents for the evening will be shared in the next couple of weeks. \n\n\n\nNominations for Executive Committee\n\n\n\nPart of the AGM is the election of the new Executive Committee for the coming year. This committee helps the Group Scout Leader in managing the Group and making sure that it has the resources to help deliver amazing Scouting in the local community. \n\n\n\nWe are looking for nominations to serve on this committee and would ask you to read through the attached letter which tells you a bit more about what is involved and then consider nominating yourself for the positions that we would like to fill. Nominations have to be submitted by the end of the day on Tuesday 31st May 2022 using the form which can be found at https://1stinceandelton.org.uk/the-group/executive-committee/nomination/. \n\n\n\nWhat happens next? \n\n\n\nDocuments relating to the AGM will be prepared and placed on the Group web siteNominations will be collatedInformation about how to access the documents and reminders for the AGM will be circulated\n\n\n\nIf anyone has any questions\, then please do not hesitate to get in touch.

SUMMARY:St Georges Promise Renewal
DESCRIPTION:St Georges Day is usually an important part of the Scouting Calendar for many groups and is either celebrated as part of a special church service or other event. It’s usually used as an opportunity to perform a Renewal of our Promise\, and reminds us all of our commitment to the Scout values. \n\n\n\nThe current situation makes this difficult to do in the normal sense\, however we’re Scouts – and we’re a resilient bunch! \n\n\n\nWhat we’d like you all to do is wear your uniforms for just a couple of minutes\, and make a recording of yourself reciting the promise (don’t forget to make the Promise sign – we’ve included a hint) and send it to us before Saturday 25th April so that we can collate the videos together and make a single video of the section renewing their promise. Ending with an attempt to set the world record for the Largest Virtual Camp on 30/04/2020\, when we’d like as many Cheshire Scouts as possible to participate. \n\n\n\nTake up the challenge and let’s keep on ‘virtually camping’\, here are the “Rules”; \n\n\n\nWe’re asking you all… Beavers\, Cubs\, Scouts\, Explorers\, Network\, Leaders\, Parents\, and Young People interested in joining in the fun to: \n\n\n\nPack a bagBuild a den at home / pitch a tent in the garden/ hang up a hammock (whatever you can)Sleep in your shelter of choiceBuild a ‘campfire’ (real or virtual)Take part in a ‘Scouty activity’Help with cooking a meal.\n\n\n\nMOST IMPORTANTLY… Each night you participate share a creative photo\, video\, blog\, etc. to our social media using the hashtag: #CampAtHome \n\n\n\nFacebook: 1st Ince and Elton; Mersey Weaver; Cheshire ScoutsTwitter: @1stInceandElton; @MerseyWeaver; @CheshireScoutsInstagram: @MerseyWeaverScouts; @CheshireScouts\n\n\n\nThen share them with your leaders and friends to show that although we can’t meet “Face to Face” Scouting doesn’t stop! \n\n\n\nEach Young Person who takes part will be entitled to 1️⃣ Night Away for each night they participate (as long as they aren’t sleeping in their bed). SUMMARY:Chester Gang Show Trip
DESCRIPTION:For the second year\, we’re running a trip to Chester Gang Show. \n\n\n\nFor those that aren’t familiar of what a Gang Show is\, here is a brief summary: \n\n\n\nA Gang Show is a theatrical performance by  members of Scouting. Young people make up the majority of the cast\, or Gang\, with adult leaders and parents helping out behind the scenes. Gang Show offers a great opportunity for young people to work together as a team on a high profile project and to stage a ‘shop window’ event to demonstrate their talents to the people of Chester and surrounding area. We have a rich history\, and have performed in venues across Chester over the years\, but our home since 2008 (with the exception of one year) is the new Vanbrugh Theatre\, Kings School. The production team and Gang\, all volunteers\, participate in many hours of planning\, writing\, composing\, choreographing\, building stage scenery/props\, making costumes and rehearsing for several months before the actual performances. In order to reach the required performance standard for a Gang Show\, a high level of commitment is needed from all involved in the production as well as support from their families. The format of a Gang Show is essentially a revue or variety show; song\, dance and short comedy sketches are the most common items.  The material in our programme is far from conventional\, and can include all forms of song\, dance and acting – we’ve tried pretty much anything from Broadway to the West End\, Hollywood to Bollywood\, Shakespeare to end-of-the-pier… Some of the material is well-known\, other material is original to Chester Gang Show\, often even devised by the young people themselves.

SUMMARY:VOLUNTEERS: District OSM Skills Day
DESCRIPTION:In early 2019\, District rolled out a free Gold+ subscription to all groups in the district for Online Scout Manager. \n\n\n\nOSM is a digital platform that reduces the administrative burden of Scouting and allows data about young people to both be collected and stored securely in a fully GDPR compliant way. \n\n\n\nIf you would like to learn more about Online Scout Manager\, join us for a friendly and hands on day (with the experts) learning how to use this powerful tool. \n\n\n\nIt is important to note the 2020 census will be generated using Online Scout Manager so every group/section will need to ensure they know how to collate this data and understand how to keep youth data up to date. \n\n\n\nWe are keen that at least one leader from each section plus the GSL/AGSL or Group Administrator attends.
