Leaders recognised at Mersey Weaver Awards Event

We’re very proud to announce that a number of our leaders have today received awards in recognition of their excellent contribution to Scouting here at 1st Ince and Elton, at a District Awards Event that was held at Queen Charlotte’s Wood (our local, district-run activity centre).

Three different awards were given out, as follows:

  • Commissioner’s Commendation – Vicki Serna
  • Chief Scout’s Commendation for Good Service:
    • Ashley Proctor
    • Callum Linger
    • Stephen Spencer
  • Bar to the Award for Merit – Graham Proctor

From everyone here at 1st Ince and Elton, we’d like to congratulate those who have received awards today – but we’d also like to thank ALL of our volunteers for their continued help and support. With their support, we wouldn’t be the group we are today – so once again, THANK YOU.

Not only did today’s event at QCW serve as an opportunity for awards to be presented, but it also celebrated the 25th anniversary of “The Hideaway” at QCW.

There was also an unveiling of a new ‘Laavu’ that had been erected in recognition of an outstanding 63 years of service by campsite manager “Ian Nicholas”. Congratulations Ian!

What we wear when we Scout

As part of our Skills for Life plan, we said we’d review the Scout uniform. This’ll help us understand what Scout members currently wear and explore other options of what could be worn.

The public and all members now have the chance to have their say, and views on variations to suit the needs of Sea Scouts, Air Scouts, faiths and nations are encouraged.

We’d like to ask if you could spare around 15 minutes to give us your views on our uniform. The format is an online questionnaire, run by PopulusLive, and it will close on 7 July 2019.

The link to give your views is: scouts.org.uk/whatwewear

We’re committed to remaining a uniformed movement. If changes are proposed, they’ll include a substantial period of transition. No decision has been made at this stage, and there are no immediate changes to uniform.

Scout Experience Survey 2019

Every year we survey young people and parents/carers to understand:

  • how young people feel about Scouting and what they gain from Scouting
  • how supported adult volunteers feel and where we can offer more support
  • why young people join and leave Scouting
  • how parents/carers feel about Scouting

This survey helps us improve the impact we have on your children and those to come.

It should take you around 15-30 minutes and is easier to do on a computer rather than your phone. If your child left Scouting in the last 12 months, we would still like to hear from you. The survey will close on Monday 1st April 2019.

We would also like your child/children to complete the survey, even if they left Scouting in the last 12 months.

  • If they are under 12, then they will only be asked five simple questions and will not be asked for any contact or personal information. You may want to help or supervise them when answering but please allow them to answer honestly, giving their own opinion.
  • If they are 12, then we will ask them more detailed questions and information about their background but not their contact details as they are too young to give permission to be contacted again.
  • If they are 13 and over, then we ask them more detailed questions, information about their background, and permission to contact them again and anonymously link their answers to things like school performance.

Please note: We will never share their answers in a way that allows them to be identified. Any results will be the average of lots of young people and any matching of information to other records will be done anonymously, with the link to them as an individual broken before we look at the results.

As a thank you, everyone taking part will be entered into a draw of £500 to spend at Scout Store or Scout Adventures or a Go-Pro. The two Districts that secure the most responses will also be entered into a similar draw for £1000.

So please remember when you’re entering the survey that ‘Where does your child take part in Scouting?’ should be answered with:

Country: ENGLAND

County/Area/Region: CHESHIRE

This is our fifth year selling bedding plants, and after the success of the first four years – it acts as one of our main fundraising activities of the year. Scouts join in UK Parliament Week!

It’s UK Parliament Week and tonight our Scouts took part.

A huge thank you goes out to our local MP Justin Madders who came along to give a talk about Parliament and his job!

During the course of the evening, some interesting topics of discussion naturally came up including Brexit and that banned Iceland advert.

GDPR Fair Processing Notice

As you all may or may not be aware, on 25th May 2018 new regulations were brought in place to enhance existing Data Protection laws and also build on people’s rights regarding control of their personal data.

Over the last couple of months, we’ve been reviewing our internal policies and creating new ones so that as a Scout Group, we align with GDPR. This has taken us a little longer than anticipated while we’ve get to grips with the new regulations and to have our new/updated policies ratified through the Group Executive Committee.

As such, we’re now ready to make you all aware of our updated policies. Please find attached a copy of our ‘Fair Processing Notice’ – this is a ‘summarised’ version of our ‘Data Privacy Notice’ which explains how we collect, process, store and use your personal information.

The full version of our Data Privacy Notice is available online on our website, and can by directly accessed by clicking: https://1stinceandelton.org.uk/legal/data-privacy-notice/.

If you have any questions, then please feel free to speak to your Section Leader.

Elton Bonfire and Firework Spectacular 2018 – Thank You!

Another Bonfire and Firework Spectacular has been and gone – and what an event it was this year!

We estimate that we’ve pulled our biggest crowd ever this year as more people from both within the village and outside the village join us to see what all the fuss is about.

To everyone that came along to support our display either by coming along to watch, purchase from our stalls or giving a donation (however big or small), we’d just like to say a HUGE Thank You!

We would also like to express an extra special thanks to the following for their continued support of the years:

  • Elton Parish Council
  • Cheshire West and Chester Council (and Ward Councillor Stephen Smith)
  • Essar
  • Elton Primary School
  • Friends of Elton Primary School
  • Mitchell Brothers (Cheshire Oaks)
  • Elton SPAR
  • Encirc and Cheshire Waste
  • Black Cat Fireworks
  • Award Computing Ltd

This is currently Elton’s only annual community event! As a community group and registered charity, we invest a huge amount of time and money into staging this event – your continued support is crucial to the success of this event.

Finally, we must also remember to say a huge thank you to the team of volunteers here at 1st Ince and Elton Scout Group. Not are they supporting a weekly programme to each of the sections (that’s Beavers, Cubs and Scouts), they also give up their time for weekend activities and also find more time to stage great community events such as this. So a huge BRAVO goes out to them.

The ‘Elton Bonfire and Firework Spectacular’ returns for it’s 9th year in 2019 on Friday 1st November – save the date!!
